Regional Special Projects

Region 5 administers Scholarship 2000, a programme sponsored by the Milwaukee Cricket Club Inc. It is designed to reach out and assist young people entering or currently enrolled in high schools in Jamaica.

Scholarship 2000

The programme is built on the knowledge that:

  • Many academically talented children are unable to fully develop their academic potential due to lack of resources.
  • Contribution to the education of young people is a sound investment in the productive and economic growth and development of a country.
  • ‘A mind is a terrible thing to waste.’
  • Although parents are under an obligation to provide for their children’s education, many are unable to provide and facilitate the educational process.
  • Many well-wishers, patriots, sons and daughters of Jamaica are able, willing and desirous of reaching out, reaching back to give a helping hand.
  • A credible vehicle is essential to facilitate a strong collaborative process to implement, monitor and evaluate the outcomes.

The mission statement of Scholarship 2000 is:

To provide financial assistance to needy high school students in Jamaica thus optimising individual as well as national growth and development.

The strategic objectives are:

  • To secure funds and/or sponsors that will directly assist in the education of young needy Jamaican high school students.
  • To effectively apply well-developed systems of accountability, which will assure donors that their contribution are properly administered. These accountability systems have been successfully applied to the Milwaukee Cricket Club, Inc. education initiatives in Mile Gully, Manchester.

Milwaukee Jamaica Education Committee

The Milwaukee Jamaica Education Committee is the Jamaica-based organization, which links the Milwaukee Cricket Club Inc. and its Education Committee into the Jamaican school system for selection of scholarship winners and for local implementation of the scholarship management systems.

The nucleus of the Committee comes out of the leadership of the Mile Gully Schools Joint Board of Management with the Chairman and Vice Chairman of that Board holding similar positions on this Committee. This ensures continuity and strengthens accountability as the Committee reports both to the Milwaukee Jamaica Education Committee and to that Board of Management.

Eleven-year-old Nordia Reid from Mile Gully Primary and 12-year-old Amelia Bramwell from Coley Mountain Primary are the recent scholarship awardees. Application forms for the scholarships may be downloaded from the Milwaukee Cricket Club website at .
