Bethlehem All Age School.
Malvern, St. Elizabeth

EMAIL ADDRESS:pespbethlehem@yahoo.com

This school is nestled in the green hills of Malvern, St. Elizabeth and has 12 teachers to 420 students.

Having been selected for the pilot as one of the four schools with existing computer labs, it was found that more than half the number of computers in the lab were not working and that only two of these were compatible with modern computer hardware and software. The implications are that the intent to use this school as a lab-type pilot will not be realistic.

It was decided that instead of focussing them on lab use only, the IT co-ordinators would be exposed to the possibilities of different configurations, which would allow them to conduct a school-based action research using the existing technology as they saw fit. They were, however, given a scanner, digital camera and six low-end computing devices (AlphaSmarts).

Their main Action Research question is "Will the use of Instructional Technology improve the reading level of the Grade 6 students of Bethlehem All-Age School?" (Read Proposal)
