Minister Whiteman on the Jamaica All Age Schools Project

Our All Age Schools have been in the forefront of the nation’s discussion on Education. This is particularly so, as everyone seeks to highlight the plight of the students who attend these schools, either to make suggestions for improving quality or to become involved personally in bringing about quality improvement.

On the Government side, we have over the years, tried to implement some policies and or programmes aimed at lifting the standards of education at these schools. Hence, the present Jamaica All Age School Project (JAASP), now in its implementation stage.

In partnership with the United Kingdom Government Department for International Development (Caribbean), we take the necessary steps to bring about meaningful improvements in the management of those remote rural schools in the project. Training in the areas of literacy and special education is a major component for quality improvement.

I urge all the members of the communities involved in the Jamaica All Age Schools Project (JAASP) to become informed about the project and to give for its successful implementation.

Senator, the Honourable Burchell Whiteman
Minister of Education, Youth and Culture
