Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
The ICT Section is responsible for all technology-related activities, projects and programmes being executed by the Media Services Unit; the primary focus being the integration of technology in teaching and learning and the use of various ICT tools in the delivery of instruction.
Development of Materials
Technology-based materials are developed to support the Revised Primary Curriculum. Materials are also developed in electronic format to support specific subject areas at the CSEC level. These materials will become available online in the near future.
Project/Consultancy Support
All ICT-related projects and programmes are supported by the ICT Team.
Among the projects supported is the Instructional Technology Component of the Primary Education Support Project (PESP) which focuses on the use of various forms of technology to improve literacy and numeracy in primary schools.
Support is provided through training workshops for principals and teachers in the use of ICT as a tool to deliver instruction, monitoring of ICT clusters of schools and the development of materials.
All technology-related consultancies are supported by the ICT Section.
Management of the Ministry’s Website
The section is responsible for all activities related to maintaining and refreshing of the Ministry’s website, including the creation of new web pages as the needs arise.
Research
The section conducts research as well as monitor and support technology-related research as commissioned by the Ministry.
Software Distribution
Thedistribution of all software as well as other electronic resources, is managed by the section.
Technical Support
The section provides technical support to the Units and Divisions of the Ministry as required. Support is also provided on a limited basis to schools. The section also maintains the Server and the Textbook Inventory to support the Textbook Programme for the Primary and Secondary Schools.
